hello world. ..
Trying to chase your dreams scared is better than not trying at all - something I am grateful I did. Hi, I’m Rachel! I’m a singer from South London. Some of you may know me, many of you on here will not and that’s ok. I want to open up my world so much more and explore so many things about myself and who I am. As a songwriter, I thought making a substack would be easy… but writing about myself with no format or guidance through chords or rhythm is seemingly more difficult today… but here goes…
I can’t remember the exact moment I decided to pursue being a singer but last week Wednesday may be the first time I truly believed it. What happened on Wednesday? Well… I announced my second album along with the lead single “One song away from crying” and a tour… the response has been amazing. Bigger than I had imagined which is super cool.
Being able to wrap my 20’s up with a bow in the form of an album is something about myself that I love and grateful I have people I can share this with. When I made my debut album, I guess I didn’t know what to expect. I can tell you for sure that I definitely didn’t expect to end up on tour with Sabrina Carpenter for 6 weeks straight after being nominated for 2 BRIT awards. That still doesn’t feel real to me but that made me realise that the world I create has no rules and is far bigger than my mind can ever imagine. I only truly imagine the art or the visual world, so the external rewards suddenly makes it all feel real. Music transcends me in ways I can’t explain but being able to process through writing, music and production is such a magical experience.
My next album feels magical for me. It feels right. I feel like my old album helped me overcome a lot of old wounds however I am more than just my traumas. I can truly say I had so much fun making this music with Apob (the producer) and so many incredible writers, musicians and humans all from my first album and new people I’ve met along the way. Being trusted with production and following my instincts. Being allowed to express freely with all the people I did my previous album with. Being trusted by my label… I don’t know what’s changed but I think the year I turned 25 was a key turning point in how I viewed the world but more importantly myself.
I wrote in my song “Garden of eden” there’s not point in anything but now I can say I truly believe it. “Fake it till you make it” many would say… but nothing matters apart from what makes you happy and trying to live a life full of love and joy. My life feels so full now, even with all the imperfections. Imperfection is what makes life so beautiful and unique… even with the worst days… I try and find a light in it. I hope my darlings (my fanbase name) can realise that through listening to my next album. Dance, cry, scream, shout, kiss and make up… or ignore each other and move on… everything is ok and that is ok. Humans by design will always be flawed so let’s be flawed together… whilst we have a dance… shall we?
